Bernstein – Overture to Candide
Bruch – Violin Concerto No. 1
Tchaikovsky – Symphony No. 4

This season, the Boston Civic Symphony embarks on a spectacular journey as Max Hobart completes his final year as music director, after leading the orchestra for thirty-eight years – one of the longest tenures of any symphony orchestra conductor in history. Joining Maestro Hobart on the podium will be three guest conductors, one of whom will be chosen as the new music director in 2017–2018. Join us as we honor one of Boston’s greatest musical legends and usher in a new era for the city’s second oldest symphony orchestra.

In March, join guest conductor David Feltner, Music Director of the Chamber Orchestra of Boston, for a program featuring Bernstein’s sparkling Overture to Candide. Charles Dimmick, Concertmaster of the Boston Modern Orchestra Project and the Portland (ME) Symphony, will be the soloist for Bruch’s ever-popular Violin Concerto No. 1. The concert will end with Tchaikovsky's towering Fourth Symphony.

About the Orchestra:
Founded in 1924, the Civic is the city’s second oldest orchestra and one of the area’s most respected musical organizations. The orchestra takes great pride in its focus on showcasing the talents of exceptionally gifted young musicians, many of whom have gone on to distinguished professional careers. An endowment by the late James Powers offers local music students the opportunity to perform with the orchestra. The other valuable members of the orchestra are established professionals and skilled amateurs who come from all walks of life.
