This opening event for “Astrid Bowlby: When the Shadow is Not Your Shadow”, a presentation by Marginal Utility hosted by Arcadia, features a conversation between artist Astrid Bowlby and Marginal Utility co-founders and directors David Dempewolf and Yuka Yokoyama.
Reception follows immediately after in the Spruance Art Center.


About the exhibition:
Titled after a lost ink drawing she made 20 years ago, Bowlby’s exhibition plays on the emotional, physical, and cultural implications of shadows. It also exploits the fruitful ambiguity of the possessive pronoun “your,” which in English can be singular or plural, masculine or feminine. With a variety of mediums, Bowlby encourages a dynamic exploration of representation, identification, and mortality.
