The Sharp Nines Jazz Ensemble is a “small big band” that has been performing in New England since saxophonist Duncan Martin formed it in 1983. All members are instructors at the John Payne Music Center in Brookline (MA).
Mr. Martin, who still directs the ensemble, is the author of the arrangements performed by the group. The eclectic music spans the jazz spectrum: early jazz, swing, be-bop, funk and Latin styles.
For this appearance at ARTSpace unfortunately Mr. Martin will not be present due to a prior commitment. His colleague, Ririka Tokushige, will be leading the band.
