The Beehive presents an evening with the ladies of SpeakEasy Stage Company’s production of The Color Purple (playing now until Feb. 8th) belting out the hits of American icon and unparalleled recording artist Aretha Franklin. Celebrating the voice and songbook of a legend like Aretha Franklin is not an easy task and that is why five powerhouse female vocalists have been enlisted to represent a career built on integrity, strength, longevity and, above all, fearlessness. Join Boston Center For The Arts institutions SpeakEasy and The Beehive as they form a partnership beginning with an intimate cabaret to tackle one of the greatest voices of all time.

Aretha Franklin is undoubtedly the most successful female R&B artist of all time. With a career that has spanned six decades, she emerged on the music scene with her single “Do Right Woman” and cemented her legend with her interpretations of Otis Redding’s “Respect" and Carole King's "Natural Woman." A songwriter in her own right, penning her own classic “Think,” she has also reinterpreted songs from artists ranging from Billie Holiday and Ella Fitzgerald to The Beatles and The Rolling Stones. 18 Grammy Awards later and a list of honors too long to list, she is the inspiration for every young female artist with a big voice.

The night’s music will be complemented by the culinary contributions of Executive Chef Marc Orfaly served from 5:30PM-12AM. Aretha Franklin’s cookbooks, inspired by her upbringings in Memphis & Detroit, will provide the inspiration for Marc’s specials for this event. Guests are welcome for full dinner reservations, or at the bar to choose from The Beehive’s collection of cocktails and a signature wine list unlike any other in New England.

The Beehive will be celebrating the life and work of Aretha Franklin from the time they open at 5:30pm and will last until they close at 1am. Dinner reservation time during the live performance, 8pm-12am, will be limited so that as many patrons as possible can experience this wonderfully unique theatrical tribute.
