A Valentine Special: Herbs, Spices & Foods for Romance

Class Description: Spice up your Valentine with this unique experience! Many herbs, spices & foods have been claimed to enhance feelings of well-being and love. Learn some of the folklore and science behind such interesting claims. Learn the differences among the flavors, actions and uses of some medicinal herbs.

We will create and try a few simple and tasty herbal preparations from plants and you will get a variety of yummy recipes that will last you a lifetime and that you could use, whether for Valentines day, any romantic occasion or even as a healthy romantic surprise on any day of the year.

The items that will be made include:

1) Damiana Chili Chocolate Love Tonic

2) Energizing Ginseng Ginger Elixir

About the facilitator: Heather Irvine teaches Herbal Actions and Phytochemistry at the Vermont Center for Integrative Herbalism and she maintained her herbal product business Giving Tree Botanicals for ten years there. She learned about herbs at the Northeast School of Botanical medicine, the Vermont Center for Integrative Herbalism and many national conferences and events, some of which she was a presenter. She also enjoys cooking, gardening and getting at the more difficult and controversial questions in herbalism.
