History Alive, Inc., the Lynn Cultural Council, and Lynn Walking Shoe Tours proudly present:
A Moment in Lynn's History: 1860s Shoemakers Strike
co-created by Kristina Wacome Stevick and Michelle Guzman

"A Moment in Lynn's History" is a series of events embracing Lynn's rich history and heritage. The first collaboration of History Alive, Inc and Lynn Walking Shoe Tours, 1860s Shoemakers Strike event is based on the historic Lynn Shoe Strike of 1860. Join the strikers in an interactive review of their efforts, and experience how the past can inspire the future of Lynn and communities everywhere.
This program is supported in part by a grant from the Lynn Cultural Council, a local agency which is supported by the Massachusetts Cultural Council, a state agency. The performance begins at 3 pm on February 22, 2020, at the Galleries at Lynn Arts, at 25 Exchange Street, Lynn MA. General admission is $7 each and is available here.

"Our Union is Complete: Our success certain!"
It's 1860, and Lynn's time-honored craft of shoemaking is quickly shifting to a factory industry. Female factory workers earn a mere $1 per hour to every $3 that male workers do, even with a 96-hour workweek. Across a wide demographic, the working class of Lynn decides enough is enough. Thus begins their plans to strike for fair pay, from which their memorable protests stem: “We Dare Battle for the Right, Shoulder to Shoulder with our Fathers, Husbands, and Brothers.”

In the first collaboration of Lynn Walking Shoe Tours and History Alive, Inc., you have the chance to participate in an interactive review of the historic Lynn Shoe Strike of 1860. Guided by community reformers from Lynn's past and present, come and see why Lynn's diverse and persevering citizens make it a spearhead of social justice to this day.
