The ancient art of Mosaics is traced back over 4,000 years to Mesopotamia! Mosaics is the art of arranging small colored pieces of hard material, such as stone, tile, or glass. These materials are proven to withstand time. Venture to historic cities like Rome and Athens and you can still walk across the same mosaic flooring from thousands of years ago!
The Mosaic Classes at The Glass Bar are committed to keeping the art of Mosiacs alive! Our trusted instructor, Wendy Birchmire, has been working in mosaics for over 10 years, and is ready to share her technique!
During this 6-week session we're going to explore the ancient technique of Mosaic art. You will create beautiful mosaic masterpieces using a variety of techniques and materials.
We're going to start off easy using only mosaic tile nippers to shape precut pieces of glass. Your first 'practice project' will use these techniques to a picture frame.
In the following weeks you will learn how to grout the pieces and more advanced techniques of cutting. You will be able to use traditional mosaic pieces such as square tiles, penny rounds and beads, as well as stained glass. After a bit of practice, you will design and create a 12” X 12” mirror.
