In 1974, the first American branch of Samaritans was founded in Boston to offer people a place to share their mental health struggles without judgement. Fifty years later, Samaritans continues to help people find hope every day. Join us at our annual Breakfast for Hope to celebrate our 50-year legacy of human connection and take part in our mission to prevent suicide and support those affected by it.

Since our founding, suicide rates have increased to the highest rate since 1941, with nearly 50,000 lives lost to suicide in 2022. Certain groups, including communities of color, LGBTQ+ folks, and young people are at heighted risk. Loneliness has become a dangerous epidemic, and human connection is needed now more than ever.
