📣 2020 TFFB September screening — DAD'S SUIT & Forum with Dr. Tammy Lai

For the September screening of our virtual 2020 Taiwan Film Festival—“Lost and Found” Series, TFFB is proud to present DAD'S SUIT, a tear jerking family drama and winner of four 2019 Taipei Film Awards. A forum discussion featuring special guests Tammy Lai, a Taiwanese actor, singer, writer, and counselor, and DC-based social worker Hsiao-Ying, will take place at the end of the viewing period. This will be a great opportunity for you to ask questions and interact with panelists, so for those interested in delving into the topics such as senior care, communication with family, etc., make sure not to miss it!

Dad’s Suit (老大人, 2019), directed by Hung Po-Hao and starring Hsiao Hou Tao, King Jieh-Wen, Phoebe Huang, Yen Tsao, and Sandra Li. The film portrays an old man, Chin-Mao, as he grapples with the fear and helplessness of a body weakening with age, and the conflicted and resentful feelings in his children sparked by their shouldering his care. The film astutely depicts the conflicts between family members, and its underlying representation of familial love is universally resonant. This is also the last performance by seasoned actor Hsiao Hou Tao before his passing earlier this year.

For the forum discussion, we have invited Tammy and Hsiao-Yin as the moderator. They plan to touch on topics such as finding a balance between caregivers and care receivers, healthy communication between family members, and how to face the aging process together. We hope that through the film and discussion, you will have gained a bit more insight to inform choices in your own lives.
