Join 12 Gates Arts for a sequel of performances and readings to the exhibition Masterminding Our Ordered Rage*, featuring Visual Artist Amrisa Narinjan and performance artists and scholars Lisa Pradhan and Akande X. This Salon is dedicated to the history of Brown and Black relations in the Americas and finding ways forward. Pre-registered open mic slots are open to poets, dancers, orators, and story-tellers. Time limit for each performance will be 10 minutes.
Amrisa Narinjan is a Guyanese-American artist who explores the contemporary experience of being a woman, an immigrant, a minority, and a millennial in the United States. Her work aims to shed light not only on minority American experiences, but how American minorities and immigrants affect each others' treatments.
Lisa Pradhan and Akande X are Oakland community organizers and activists who study the relationship between the Black Panthers and Dalit Panthers, and organization fighting oppressive and violent treatment of dalits in 1970s Maharashtra. They'll share archival work, including interviews with Dalit Panther organizer J.V. Pawar, and speak to contemporary Afro-Asian solidarity initiatives, politics, and media.
